Therapeutic Intervention and Rehabilitation

 

Cooperation and Support received by 'Commitments' from premier institutions in Hyderabad are immensely valuable in the Programmes for Intervention and Rehabilitation. Prominent among these institutions have been (i) Kamineni Hospitals (ii) L.V.Prasad Eye Institute (iii) National Institute of Mentally Handicapped and (iv) National Institute of the Hearing Handicapped, Secunderabad Regional Branch.

Mobility - This is the biggest hurdle for most of the disabled. The Commitments staff has been actively involved in requisitioning support from governmental and other non governmental organizations, especially for acquiring aids and appliances to the disabled of the four mandals in which they are working.
Physical restoration and Rehabilitation - Intervention makes a difference. Sri. K. Suryanarayana, Chairman, Kamineni Hospitals and Dr. K. Sridhar, Managing Director, continued the access to their facilities and support to all the Sangams. The work of their superb team of Orthopedic Surgeons, Dr. Vidyasagar, Dr. Kamaraju and Dr. Subrahmanyam, have made them household names among the communities of persons with disability in Mahabubnagar district

Visually Impaired - In India blindness is a major public health problem. L.V. Prasad Eye Institute continued to provide invaluable support and assistance to all the poor and disabled from the Sangams for correctional treatment of the Visually impaired. Dr. G.N.Rao, Director, Dr. Khan, Director CBR and Ms. Sharmila have ensured that high quality assessment and treatment is available to all those referred to them at all times.

Speech and Hearing Impaired - Commitments has organized regular consultation with Ali Yavar Jung National Institute for Hearing Handicapped (AYJNIHH) of secundrabad, for the assessment and treatment of persons with speech and hearing impairment. This consolidated effort of the Commitments team has successfully built up an alliance with AYJNIHH who are sending a team of their interns to the project area in all the four mandals.
Mentally Impaired - 'Commitments' and members of Sangams have been fortunate in securing the support of National Institute of Mentally Handicapped, Secunderabad, in its efforts towards rehabilitation and mainstreaming of persons with mental retardation. Dr. L. Govinda Rao, Ms. Beenapani Mahapatra and their Assessment team have extended valuable support and cooperation in the treatment and rehabilitation.
Physiotherapy - Physiotherapy and physical management are vital components in the rehabilitation for the physically challenged persons. The Commitments team had been concentrating on the surgical corrections for those persons who require them, for the last one year.
