The Community Development work of Commitments was started in 2001, when staff began to work extensively in all 94 villages of the 5 mandals of Mahaboobnagar District. This consisted of forming Sanghams - Self-help Groups of people with disabilities, helped by a Commitments social worker.

Training was given, and as a result there is now a better awareness in the community of the needs of people with disabilities, and a growth in the confidence of the members of the Sangham.

Each Sangham has a plan of action for activities in the areas of health, education, livelihood, aids and appliances, barrier free movements, government schemes, training, advocacy for rights and other social issues.

We proudly present the stories of eleven people whose lives are examples of what can be achieved by courage and perseverance.

The stories also show how effective the self-help Sanghams can be in supporting individuals and encouraging them in their struggle for independance and recognition.
